The Philippine Economic Society (PES) Board of Trustees elected its new set of officers for this year on 20 January 2023, led by Ateneo School of Government Dean, Dr. Philip Arnold P. Tuaño, as President.
The Philippine Economic Society (PES) participated in the 45th Annual Conference of the Federation of ASEAN Economic Associations (FAEA) held at the International Convention Center in Ba Dinh District, Hanoi, Vietnam on 25-26 November 2022.
The theme of the conference, organized by the Vietnam Economic Association (VEA), was "Economic Recovery and Growth in ASEAN Countries After the COVID-19 Pandemic and Response Strategies in the Context of Great Changes in the International Economy."
The International Economic Association (IEA) released its call for papers, inviting paper submissions for the contributed sessions of the IEA World Congress 2023 to be held on 11-15 December 2023 in Medellin, Colombia.
The Congress, jointly organized with the Universidad EAFIT Colombia, has the main theme, “World Economy at a Turning Point? Conflict, Fragmentation, and Divergence.”
Nobody can accuse the Philippines for lack of strategic economic ideas on how to overturn what many believe to be an inexorably uncertain future for this nation of 112 million Filipinos. This is true not only today but also during the previous political leadership.
As many among us love to observe, “walang tatalo sa Pinoy sa talakayan!”
Members of the Philippine Economic Society (PES) elected five individuals to sit as members of the Board of Trustees for the next two years, beginning January 2023:
The Philippine Economic Society (PES) formally inducted Batch 2022 of the Young Economists Honor Society (YEHS) program during the virtual closing session of the 60th PES Annual Meeting and Conference on 11 November 2022.
The YEHS is an annual recognition given since 2017 by the PES to the top graduates of economics and economics-related programs offered by higher education institutions in the Philippines. Since its inception, the YEHS has recognized more than 100 young economists.
How can the Philippines develop a long-term development strategy that is sustainable, equitable, and less vulnerable to natural and social disruptions as it moves forward in the post-pandemic world? This was the question that the Philippine Economic Society (PES) sought to answer as it held its Annual Meeting and Conference on 9-11 November 2022 in a hybrid format.
Former PES presidents, together with the current Board of Trustees, gathered on 28 October 2022 at the Joy~Nostalg Hotel & Suites Manila in Mandaluyong City to catch up, tell stories, and share experiences as part of the activities leading up to the 60th PES Annual Meeting and Conference in November.
The gathering was the first PES Presidents' Night to be held in three years after the COVID-19 pandemic limited most gatherings to virtual mode.
Members of the Philippine Economic Society (PES) approved the amended Articles of Incorporation (AOI) of PES through an online referendum held on 29 August to 2 September 2022.
Out of 289 members who were eligible to vote, a total of 151 participated in the referendum, bringing a 52.25% voter turnout.
A total of 148 voted to approve, one voted to reject, and two voted in abstention.
