Agricultural Credit Policy Council – Executive Director

In view of the early retirement of the Agricultural Credit Policy Council (ACPC) Executive Director effective July 1, 2024, a Selection Committee was created by the ACPC Governing Council during its 75th Meeting held last January 19, 2024. The Selection Committee shall assist the Council in the judicious and objective assessment of applicants and the selection for appointment of the Executive Director subject to existing laws and rules and regulations.

Economic security is still and has been the urgent national concern of Filipinos for too many decades and administrations.

The Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development defines economic security as vulnerability to economic loss, focusing on the consequences such as income loss.

It also includes access to basic needs infrastructure like health, education, dwelling, information, and social protection – elements that actually fall in the scope of primary responsibilities of government.

Boosting manufacturing seen as key to higher GDP growth

MANILA - The Philippines needs to beef up its manufacturing sector in order for the economy to grow significantly, according to several economists at a forum organized by the Philippine Economic Society and Stratbase ADR Institute.

Former National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) Sec. Ernesto Pernia said the manufacturing industry needs a lot of help from the government as it is lagging behind many regional peers. 

One key factor is the low foreign direct investments or FDI to the country, which would have created more manufacturing plants and generated more jobs.

Weak external trade the new normal for PHL?

THE country’s external trade performance may continue to be lackluster and may already be the new normal for the Philippines given the “unilateral” decisions made by its two biggest trade partners—China and the United States.

On Tuesday, the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) reported that exports contracted 6.3 percent while imports declined 14.7 percent in September 2023.
